Tianjin's night views unfold along the Hai River. Here are three of the city's night-view spots, laid out along the river.
Jinwan Plaza and the area around Tianjin Station
The first is Jinwan Plaza, on the riverbank across from Tianjin Station. European-style buildings line the water, and when the lights come on at night, the architecture and the river reflect one another. Cafés and restaurants cluster here, and with easy access by subway and bus, it makes a good starting point for a night out. In the evening you can also take a Hai River sightseeing cruise and enjoy the city's night views from the water.
Near the plaza, beside Liberation Bridge, stands a large clock sculpture, the "Century Clock." A roughly 40-meter metal sculpture built in 2000 to welcome the 21st century, it was restored in 2024 and still stands in its original place.
The Tianjin Eye — a giant Ferris wheel on a bridge
The second is Tianjin's landmark Ferris wheel, the Tianjin Eye. Built atop Yongle Bridge over the confluence of the Hai River, it is a rare structure combining a bridge and a Ferris wheel. About 120 meters tall, its 48 transparent capsules take about 30 minutes for one rotation. From the top you can take in the Hai River and the city's night views at a single glance.
Operating hours are Tuesday to Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., with Monday operation from 6 p.m. As of 2025, admission is 80 yuan for adults in the daytime and 100 yuan at night, and 40 and 50 yuan for children and seniors respectively. As one of Tianjin's signature attractions, lines can be long, so if you plan to ride, it is best to arrive early.
The Italian Style Town
The third is the Italian Style Town, created by preserving and renovating the former Italian concession. It is a large cluster of Italian-style architecture preserved outside Italy itself; Tianjin has developed it under protection since 2002 and opened it as a tourist area in 2008. About a 10-minute walk from Tianjin Station across Liberation Bridge, it pairs well with the spots above.
Within the district, restaurants and cafés line up against a backdrop of Italian-style buildings and plazas, and at night the lights and street performances create a distinctive atmosphere. The contrast between light and dark is strong after dark, however, so portrait photos are hard to get right; the area is better suited to framing the architecture and streetscape.
