34 years of Korea–China ties: ambassador says it is time to ask what the two can build together
South Korea's ambassador to China, Roh Jae-heon, said at a concert marking the 34th anniversary of diplomatic ties on Aug. 24 at his residence in Beijing that economic cooperation should move beyond trade volumes toward joint creation. About 150 guests attended, including four former ambassadors to China.
The concert, hosted by the Korean Embassy in China, was themed “Korea and China, 34 years together, meeting through music.” Guests came from government, business, academia and the arts of both countries, and former ambassadors Shin Jeong-seung, Lee Kyu-hyung, Noh Young-min and Jang Ha-sung also attended.
In his welcome remarks, Roh named artificial intelligence and advanced technology, supply chains, the green transition and climate change as new challenges. He said Korea–China economic cooperation should move beyond “how much we buy and sell” to a stage of considering “what we can create together.” Speaking to reporters, he said neighbors may have disputes, but over the long run the two countries have always cooperated.
